The Birthday Party

Sonia Friedman Productions presents

The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter

Following critically-acclaimed productions of Betrayal, and Old Times, Ian Rickson directs an Olivier Award-winning cast in a new production of Harold Pinter’s dark-comic masterpiece The Birthday Party, featuring Toby Jones (The Play What I Wrote, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Sherlock), Stephen Mangan (The Norman Conquests, Jeeves and Wooster, Episodes), Zoë Wanamaker (Harlequinade, Passion Play, My Family), and Pearl Mackie.

Stanley Webber (Tony Jones) is the only lodger in a sleepy seaside boarding house run by Meg (Zoë Wanamaker) and Petey Boles. That is – until the unsettling arrival of enigmatic strangers Goldberg (Stephen Mangan) and McCann disrupts the humdrum lives of the trio and their friend Lulu. As a seemingly innocent birthday party turns into a disturbing nightmare, mundanity becomes menace, and truth and alliances hastily shift.

The Birthday Party opens in January 2018 for a strictly limited run of 14 weeks. Book your tickets for The Birthday Party at The Harold Pinter Theatre in London today!

  • Pinter at his best

    14 January 2018

The witty dialogue and long tension filled silences kept me on the edge of my seat , each character interested me in a different way. Before watching it , I read the script and seeing it come to life before my eyes was very satisfying. It is everything and exactly what I wanted it to be. The set really does feel like a boarding house in a seaside town. From Meg’s cornflakes to Goldberg and Mcann’s hilarious whilst troubling banter with Stanley. It is such a smart play and quite surprising it was pinters first , Best play I’ve seen so far ...

  • Disapointed with customer service

    12 January 2018

I'm disappointed with the level of customer service from this company. I didn’t end up seeing the play that I had booked, I saved the date in my diary and invited a friend, and spent hours searching my inboxes for the email confirmation, I even called the theatre to try and confirm if I had tickets. Today I received an email ‘how did you enjoy the play’. After realising which company I booked the tickets through, I called the customer service line and after a long wait on hold was told that there was nothing that could be done to help resolve my disappointment at missing the play; there was no other representative to talk to help find a solution for me. I find this very disappointing when I know other customer service driven operators would have offered a good will solution and been more understanding.

This is a wonderful production - I believed in and was drawn to each character and was enthralled. It left me with lots of questions and thoughts, excellent.
