Wicked

West End and Broadway favourite Wicked is currently playing at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre where it is thrilling audience members!

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire and with songs by Stephen Schwartz of Godspell fame, Wicked is a prequel to the much-celebrated The Wizard of Oz.
The musical tells the story of the two witches who will become Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. In this subversive retelling of the familiar story of Oz the green-skinned Elphaba is a well-meaning outcast just trying to do the right thing while the self-centred and pushy Glinda is just trying to be popular. They meet in school where their relationship and their lives take a number of startling turns.

The Wicked musical has won numerous awards, including an Olivier Award for Most Popular Show, two Olivier Audience Awards and three WhatsOnStage Awards for ‘Best West End Show’.

  • An Unenthusiastic Performance

    25 May 2017

Having seen wicked on a couple of occasions before, I more or less knew what to expect. However this particular performance was a half-arsed effort to get through the show as quickly as possible. Whilst I understand the performance was not particularly busy, meaning the actors would have not had as much to feed off, I am a huge believer that energy should always be a must. It is that energy that this particular performance lacked. Another issue I had was that the actors had made such an effort to make the show their own that almost the entirety of the story was very difficult to interpret. The actress playing Galinda in an overly exaggerated fashion made it very difficult to follow the story and what was going on. The same applied for the majority of the cast, bar Madame Morible who was the only one giving full energy and effort to the performance. Much as I like the show, I was not impressed with this performance at all and was very close to leaving at intermission, however opted to give the show a second chance instead.

  • Just OK

    25 May 2017

We sat in the higher level and the seats are very uncomfortable. When the actors were on the front of the stage it was hard to see them. The singing was at such a high pitch, and so loud that I wondered if it broke safety levels for your hearing. However my 13 year old daughter enjoyed it and as we were there for her birthday, that was the most important thing.
